This scenario sounds quite implausible to me, for a number of reasons.
First of all, the fact that millions of RPI are in the wild does not
mean that they are all running freedombox: sadly most of the people who
owns them won't have heard about its existence, and then at least some
of them have bought the RPI to devote it to some specific task, and
are going to need to buy a new board for the FB anyway.
The second reason is that AFAIK (but I could be wrong) there is no plan
to write a software to detect the board / computer one is running FB on
and nag the user if it is not free enough: up to now the choice of
suported hardware has been used just to promote it on the web site
to people who are looking for a board to buy to run the FB on.

Once people hit the freedombox page and get to know the name of
a few OSHW boards, getting them is just as easy as buying a RPI:
I've just searched for olinuxino and beagleboard on amazon and they are
both available on prime with next day delivery, just like the raspberry.
