As already suggested to me for some weeks, use the original packages
and create your own patch wich will patch-out all stuff not needed
for the embedded system.

Exactly:  1) download your desired source
          2) dpkg-source -X *.dsc
          3) modify all stuff you need
          4) change the debian/control and add an extension like "emdeb"
          5) build your package and put it into a private repository
          6) enjoy it

Note:   I have many things automated to do it and the
        original packages where arround 380 MByte...
        Now the repository has only 290 MByte.
