I looked up this bug as soon as I remembered that I'd been neglecting
it for some time--thankfully I hadn't set myself as owner. Does this
bug still occur with unflavoured emacs from experimental?

https://packages.debian.org/experimental/emacs

I'm still plodding away on year-old projects, having to defer them for
higher priority bugs, and I have to confess that helping to solve this
bug is one of the lower priority projects. If anyone wants to work on
it, please go ahead.

Sincerely,
Nicholas
