I'm embarrassed to report that versions of dh-elpa prior to 0.0.11 generated bad maintainer scripts (technically bad emacsen-common scripts). I didn't find this breakage until now because it only manifests on emacs upgrade (or switching to different flavour). My confusion was thinking that I could guess the name of the packge being upgraded from $DPKG_MAINTSCRIPT_PACKAGE. But of course in retrospect this more or less misses the entire point of emacsen-common. It suffices to rebuild affected packages against dh-elpa >= 0.0.12. The bug is fixed as a side-effect of the new elpa-version handling that hardcodes the version into the emacsen-common scripts. Eventually we might want to think about binNMUs, but this currently doesn't work for arch-all packages. sorry for the inconvenience, d
