xemacs does not recognise Shift+Fn keys

Hello

I am completely puzzled by the following:
in debian (knoppix 3.3, which is basically debian woody) I installed 
the 21.4.14 package with apt-get.

Now shift+Fn keys are not recognised anymore!!

This is independent of the window manager, I tried KDE, tmw, icemw,
etc.
I checked the XF86config file, nothing strange in there.

However shift+Fn keys are recognised in Openoffice and even in GNU
emacs!


For me this is a serious misbehaviour,

Any experience or suggestions?
