Latest version of Debian x-face-el (1.3.6.23-3) has a conditional
`(if (not window-system) nil (...)'. It might cause your problem.

I didn't want to load x-face related functions when `emacs -nw'.
I don't know the console environment well.

Does anybody have any suggestions for the x-face-el startup file?

(I'm Debian maintainer of x-face-el, select-xface, bitmap-mule and wl.)
