Gee, an elisp mail reader, that's easy to configure and understands MH
folders... 

How about MH-E ?  ;-)

We're releasing a beta of V7.0 this thursday and it will get into
emacs-21.4.  There's a Debian package which will be updated to V7.0 on
the day of its release, but you can build a package from CVS easily.
