It's considered experimental for very good reason, too. There are a fair
number of oddities with it and, unless you wish to help with
development, it's probably not the nicest thing to try using.

Well, because it ignored many of the standard behaviors for an X
toolkit, anyway. Hence the lack of the standard specifiers for geometry
for a long time with it, and other ... questionable bits of dropped
functionality.
