        True. Installing gnuserv from stable and removing xemacs worked, at
least gnuclient works as emacsclient (opens the file in the existing emacs
frame).

        Thanks a lot, I think I'll keep it this way until the GNU Emacs team
decides to implement attaching to a tty (or I get tired of it and decide to
give xemacs a real try).

        Maybe... Anyway, I'll file a bug report, as Alan suggested.
