> I noticed that a user needs to do the initial desktop setup manually > (specify the window manager, configure the panel) if LXQt is used as DE. The user first needs to know that 'xfwm4' is wanted as input. Having done that the user is presented with a rather minimal panel (missing even a menu item) without a hint or clue how to get out of this mess. I evaluated these options: (1) Skip supporting the LXQt desktop environment (2) Disable the desktop-profiles approach (the 'sheep' way) (3) Use configuration below /etc/xdg (XDG approach) Excluded (1) because LXQt seems to be a rather decent DE suited for Debian Edu users. Excluded (2) because all DEs would lack the structured Edu menu which groups more than 50 educational applications by topic to ease the user's work. Decided to choose (3); in addition to (2) existing Edu files are linked to the appropriate places below /etc/xdg. In this case all DEs are working without any user interaction and will show the Edu menu. Keep the desktop-profiles package though to avoid possible side-effects and to not be too invasive. Consider to work on this issue for bullseye. Wolfgang
