No, a regression is not really fine. IMHO it actually rather sucks!  
But that's merely one point of view.

It adds GOsa object classes and attributes, so that newly added  
machines get recognized by GOsa.

I get your scepticism about gopdc. I actually share it (mainly because  
of age, also because of PHP). But it seems to be one add-on component  
for GOsa being actively used by Gonicus & co.

So, I will commit my (generic) changes to Samba later and comment out  
the gopdc stuff.
