[Bug 1438] New: imap directory missing if user did not receive any mail yet
http://bugs.skolelinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1438
Summary: imap directory missing if user did not receive any mail
yet
Product: Skolelinux
Version: lenny-rc2
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: Configuration
AssignedTo: debian-edu@lists.debian.org
ReportedBy: andi.mundt@web.de
I tried to configure KMail to receive mails via the tjener imap-server. This
turned out to be a very annoying procedure because the directory corresponding
to the user seems not to be on tjener-imap until the user receives her very
first mail.
>From tjener syslog:
Feb 2 11:01:37 tjener imapd-ssl: Connection, ip=[::ffff:10.0.2.51]
Feb 2 11:01:37 tjener imapd-ssl: testu: chdir(/var/lib/maildirs/testu)
failed!!
Feb 2 11:01:37 tjener imapd-ssl: error: No such file or directory
Feb 2 11:01:37 tjener imapd-ssl: LOGIN FAILED, user=testu,
ip=[::ffff:10.0.2.51]
Feb 2 11:01:37 tjener imapd-ssl: authentication error: No such file or
directory
Feb 2 11:01:46 tjener imapd-ssl: Connection, ip=[::ffff:10.0.2.51]
Feb 2 11:01:46 tjener imapd-ssl: testu: chdir(/var/lib/maildirs/testu)
failed!!
Feb 2 11:01:46 tjener imapd-ssl: error: No such file or directory
Feb 2 11:01:46 tjener imapd-ssl: LOGIN FAILED, user=testu,
ip=[::ffff:10.0.2.51]
If a mail is sent to the user prior to setting up imap, this does not happen.
I posted a workaround here:
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/Documentation/Lenny/HowTo/Users#InternalmaildeliverywithKMail
As solution we might send each user a wellcome mail as soon as her user account
has been created.
Regards
Andi
