Actually, we do use "student" in Rheinland-Pfalz/Germany, and would like
to keep it that way. There is no technical reason to switch to a
different role if there is no need for it, or different permissions
involved that differ from "student".

The same applies for "professor" vs "teacher". Nobody complained so far.
If it is easy just to rename roles without changing anything in the file
system or dangling LDAP refs involved, it may be an option, but it would
require an additional question in the installation/setup like
"Role naming [University/school]: [U/s]" or similar. Personally, I see no
need for this.
