Summary: without local gateway, a combi-server works unbearable
slowly
Product: Skolelinux
Version: lenny
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: Configuration
AssignedTo: debian-edu@lists.debian.org
ReportedBy: debalance@debian.org
I have set up a combi-server from the leny-test dvd without any network access.
The installation works but takes a while.
The problem is afterwards:
using lwat with iceweasel is a pain in the ass, every 2nd click makes it hang
for 3-30 seconds. konqueror is not much better.
Even 'su' takes quite a while after having entered the correct root-password
untill the root-prompt appears.
I believe the cause is the powerdns configuration.
It looks up a name, get's the IP, but starts 2 more (recursive?) tries to
resolve it, which time out after several seconds.
Having a gateway and internet access, this timeout doesn't happen and
everything works nice and smooth.
