esd is not being using in the Lenny setup, only pulsaudio. For the
non-pulseaudio-ready applications, they work launching them through padsp.
Tested with audacity successfully to play sounds (not to record).

For kde applications, jack can theorically be setup to use pulseaudio using
pulseaudio-module-jack package, but I haven't tried it (Gnome works with
pulseaudio without any needed setup ;)
