I investigated this, and believe I found the cause.  lvm2 hang during shutdown.

The fix is to remove and purge lvm2 in LTSP, using

  chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 apt-get purge lvm2

This should be done in ltsp-make-client.  I have not done the change in svn.
