as I can tell from my personal desktop computer, higher resolutions and
more graphical effects consume a lot of cpu power. Have a try going back
to 800x600 and 16 bit colors.
how did you configure pulse audio?
did you ever do a analysis (htop) when things went slow?
is your moodle server running on your ltsp machine?
