Re: need dhcpd.conf file

Thanks Daniel,

I would have spent all weekend trying to get some kind of dhcpd file going.  It's definitely a lot nicer adding via LWAT and not having to update anything else after that.

I haven't been able to full test to see if what you said works since I installed over the lenny workstation I had going before I got your email, but I should be able to when I get back to work this week.  Now I've added some windows machines and have noticed that I can log-on to tjener (domain is set to skolelinux) and I don't have to setup static IP addresses or samba hosts.  Is this correct?

I thought I had to preauthorize each windows clients with a mac address, but it looks like any windows machine, as long as it's domain is skolelinux, will connect and users can have roaming profiles and read their home directory perfectly fine.

This works for me, but is there a reason I should also add samba hosts?  Seems to work perfect without even adding static samba hosts.

Thanks,

Tim

I think you have the correct version of the config file installed.
During the Lenny development cycle we (as in Debian Edu) switched from
the plain text config file to LDAP based configuration for the dhcpd.
The dhcpd now reads, thanks to a patch included in the Debian package,
the config data from LDAP. All you should find in dhcpd.conf is the
configuration of how the dhcpd can access the LDAP tree.

With LWAT you should be able to add and manage the hosts of your
network. Adding a host now also adds LDAP entries for dns and dhcp. This
way you can skip the step of modifying the dhcpd.conf after changing
LDAP accordingly.

If you need/want the old config file, used in Etch, you can find it in
our svn tree though WebSVN here:

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/debian-edu/tags/src/debian-edu-config/1.416%2Bsvn39964/etc/dhcp3/dhcpd-debian-edu.conf

Hope this helps, and please report any problems you have with the new
LDAP based dhcp configuration.

Regards,

Daniel
