The bug seems to have considerable impact as Nicolas pointed two related
bugs (1-normal, 1-minor).
The patches provided by Nicolas seem to hit that nail on the head (IMHO).
How do we proceed about it?
Is there a way to promote the inclusion of this fix in lenny?
http://release.debian.org/migration/testing.pl?package=cdebconf states:
    * trying to update cdebconf from 0.138lenny2 to 0.139 (candidate is 21
days old)
    * cdebconf is in freeze; contact debian-release if update is needed

Yet, This fix is NOT even in 0.139.

Let me know [if | when]ever you think the workaround should be submitted.

Odd.
