I don't use Konquerer at all, so cannot comment on its quality.

Beware that changes to alternatives are reset when packages offering an
alternative to same oject is updated.
What I do on my machines (since some years now) is add a file
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99-local-set-preferred-x-www-browser with the
following content (Post-Invoke is a single very long line - don't
recall if that was just laziness or there is no escape possible):
// We prefer iceweasel over other alternatives (goddammit!)
DPkg
{
Post-Invoke {"if [ -x /usr/sbin/update-alternatives ] && [ -x /usr/bin/iceweasel ]; then /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --set x-www-browser /usr/bin/iceweasel; else exit 0; fi";};
};
I do the same for x-session-manager and x-terminal-emulator to allow
both GNOME or KDE being installed without taking over my personal
preferences.
