The assumption may be this:
you or someone installed edubuntu from a CD
you or someone decided to modify your /etc/apt/sources.list file
you or someone installed a package from a Debian repository
or
you or someone installed edubuntu form a CD you or someone decided to
you or someone downloaded one or more debian .deb files and
proceeded to install these

assuming you did one of these, who informed you that debian and ubuntu
pacakges were compatible? Some people may assume because both are in the
same format (DEB) that they are the same, but they are not.

You could have asked someone here or on an Ubuntu list or irc channel to
avoid such future misunderstandings. We dont mind questions.

one approach to solve this is to reinstall your edubuntu system but that
would be a last resort. If not, consult the system administrator of your
computers.

hope that helps,
