This error message is from cdd-gen-control from cdd-dev version 0.3.11.
I just replaced cdd-gen-control by the "future" one on my local machine
and thus did not noticed that the Makefile does not call ./gen-control
which it should for the moment.
Your question about the common package make me believe this is not
totally unexpexted?
No - it's totally unrelated to the question. ;-)

I'm not sure. The GIS task do not contain any configuration yet. :)
Well, in Debian-Med we do not have special configurations either but
the common package that is created by the cdd-dev tool does a little bit
more like organising the user menu etc. The question is, whether we do
want to mix up configuration of dependant package packages with those
CDD stuff or whether we should split this. In any case if you do not
create a common directory in your cdd-source package the common package
is not builded so you can easily leave this out.
