John, I assume your problems with openoffice crashing is neither related to 
your particular hardware model nor the version of education-desktop-kde you're 
running - as Klaus Ade doesnt have such problems.

Can you reproduce the openoffice crash with a new user? (Someone who's homedir 
is basically empty?)
