Dropping the hostname part will take away the feature whre each mount point is unique in one site. Say you want to have host1:/skole/host1/home0/ and host2:/skole/host2/home0/ mounted on all hosts, also host1 and host2. Your proposal make it impossible to get consistent paths on these hosts.
