I just tested this on a recent standalone CD install (after editing kdmrc
to allow root login), and there the device hotplugging worked as expected.

I'm not sure what is wrong with the workstation profile.  I do notice
from the provided information that the ltsp user failed to get into the
fuse group, this will break local devices on the thin client, I believe.
