Comment: My impression is, that this interesting wish (or at least its 
discussion) mixes two different approaches:

- desktop profiles (mainly for KDE) are connected to the kiosk mode. It might 
get tricky to implement them net-wide if you use different versions of KDE...

- the original idea was in my eyes something that was meant to be handled by 
cfengine: Save maintainance work for workstations, for instance by 
synchronizing dpkg-selections. For this purpose, sharing apt-settings net-wide 
would really make sense. There are other approaches, of course, from cfengine 
over FAI to CiPux's client-rollout. I wonder, what other people use.
