[Bug 1010] New: Loging in using ldm on thin clients is slow

http://bugs.skolelinux.no/show_bug.cgi?id=1010

Summary: Loging in using ldm on thin clients is slow
           Product: Skolelinux
           Version: sarge-pr06
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: System distrubution
        AssignedTo: debian-edu@lists.debian.org
        ReportedBy: faj@bzz.no

When logging in using the new and shiny ltsp, things take consideribly longer
than when we used ltsp4. If we replace ldm with "X -query ltspserver" things are
speeded up.

I think there is a problem both with the time it takes from boot and until we
get a login dialog, and there is a problem with the time from the users logs in,
and until the desktop appears.

Wen disabling hotplug on the client I was able to speed up my test-client from 1
minute and 55 seconds till 1 minute and 35 seconds.
I have not checked if it has any consequense.

I have also tested to replace ldm with a simple "X -query ltspserver", and that
speeds up the time it takes to log in somewhere from 30-60 seconds. the time it
takes to actually start kde seems to be 15 seconds in either cases, so we are
talking about from 45-75 seconds to log in with ldm, and 15 seconds with "X
-query ltspserver".
The later is about the same time it takes to log in using the old LTSP4.
