KDE switched to the freedesktop.org menu specification starting version 3.2, previous to that they had their own kde-specific format. So to change the menu for: KDE >= 3.2 you: 1) specify the wanted menu setup using the format specified in the freedesktop menu specification 2) set up XDG_CONFIG_DIRS to include a basedir containing that menu setup KDE < 3.2 you: 1) specify the wanted menu setup using the legacy KDE format 2) setup KDEDIRS to include the kde-profile containing the new menu setup desktop-profiles provides a general solution for step 2 (note that the added basedir/kde-profile need not include only the changed menu structure, it may set up other things to) -- cobaco (aka Bart Cornelis): Coördinator Belgisch Skolelinux team Coördinator Nederlandse Skolelinux vertaling
