Sorry - I do this on a number of networks. And the ltsp-clients aren't even
allowed to talk to the work, the _have_ to talk to the proxy-server. 

So I guess something is wrong in your setup. 

Have you set up squid to hold your downloaded debs ? 
have you enlarged the proxy spool ?
