You think wrong.
Yes, apt uses the environment variables for choosing the right proxy cache. When
it's set to *use* the proxy cache. I just added those for completeness.
But for apt to actually use the proxy cache, it has to be told so.
So before you say it works fine do a download/install/upgrade on one machine.
Then do it over again on another one. On the same network.
Does it download any faster than the previous one?
If it's downloading from the proxy cache, the download of a package should be
just a blip on the screen (well, openoffice.org actually takes a few seconds).
If it takes time, well, perhaps it's downloading the package over again. From
the net.
Nothing critical happens, but it's very slow if you have to do a number of upgrades.
So, it doesn't cost much. Could the settings be applied? (Or, are they already?)
Or do I still have to do this setting, on every installation, by hand?
