LTSP is not Debian. Debian provides other solutions for diskless
operation, with lesdisks being the newest and most actively maintained
(or "least unmaintained", depending on how harsh you want to put it).

If you want non-Debian educational solutions I suggest you take a look
at http://lwn.net/Distributions/#edu (or other parts of that page for
more generic but aiming at small/old processors).

If you are interested in a generic debian solution for your old PC then
I strongly suggest you discuss it in a broader forum than this. We may
happen to know some solutions for your needs, but others may have better
options for you that you won't stumble across in this list: We build a
system called "Skolelinux" that requires at least one relatively
powerful machine.

As stated earlier: I do not want you to leave this list, Jon, as your
input is valuable also to our development focus. But please let us all
use the most optimal mailinglist for each discussion.

Kind regards,

 - Jonas
