http://volatile.debian.net/ should solve these kinds of problems to some
extend (at least that's how I understand the idea behind volatile)
As for the installer I think I remember some discussion of releasing an
updated installer with added drivers for sarge (as d-i makes this
relatively easy to do, whereas for bootfloppies this was more of a
nightmare)
