I would certainly be interested in such presentation!

There are several possibilities of sound on (lessdisks) thin clients:

 * Esound (works for me, the Debian maintainer of lessdisks)
 * NAS (works for Vagrant, the author of lesdisks)
 * Rplay (known to work in a german test installation of lessdisks)

Also, lessdisks can run applications locally (instead of through XDMCP)
and have then access to the ordinary ALSA/OSS devices on the diskless
clients.

AFAIK no VoIP apps today support the above methods, and AFAIK only NAS
supports both sound in and out. So in short: yes, true thin client
setups cannot currently run VoIP applications.
