I agree that we should emphasize the preferred (according to Skolelinux
- - but tweakable by each site from somewhere below /etc) set of
applications, not suppress choices.
For user selection in menus: Add an additional "Skolelinux" menu item
containing the major 10-20 preferred applications.
For automatic selection when double-clicking a document: Make a script
that runs through /etc/alternatives and various MIME databases to prefer
a list of applications over other choices.
Sure, it's a hack. I believe it will be until debian at some point
designs some grand coordination between various MIME databases and the
old and simple alternatives symlink pool.
