Bug#295456: debian-edu-install: initrd.img generated during installation does not support ext3
Package: debian-edu-install
Version: 0.645+svn2753
Severity: normal
A normal debian-edu installation first formats the partitions as ext2 (due to autopartkit limitations), then generates initrd.img, before converting the disksrtitions as ext3. as a result, the ext3 modules is missing from the initrd.img, and therefor / (at least) is mounted as ext2.
rerunning dpkg-reconfigure kernel-image during debian-edu-profile, after tune2fs would work around the problem. The real fix would of course be to fix autopartkit
