version control for config files (was: Re: FAQ splinters)

X or not, for administrators who mess around in config files there is a need for an editor tool that not only allows to change files' contents, but at the same time logs the changes (changelog) in some central place and keeps backups (revision control like cvs). All this must be easier to use than cvs, kind of seemingless. Maybe there is already such tool?

ACK. There *is* a need for a _as_seemless_as_possible_ version control of the config files.
(/me thinks of some type of auto commit when saving config files.)

Is there already such a tool?
Or using the existing tools: does someone know if there is already the necessary glue availible somewhere?
Or does this glue still have to be made up?
(My first thought is using "fam" and a cvs-system. Still don't know how
to use "fam" but i think thats what it's written for.)

Best wishes,
