New Skolelinux CD image release candidate 1 (rc1)
I've made a new Skolelinux CD image, release candidate 1. It is
available from <URL:ftp://developer.skolelinux.no/skolelinux-cd/>.
The image size is 649 MiB.
Major changes since the previous image:
* In first stage installer (debian-installer):
+ Improved HW detection support.
+ Updated translations.
+ Removed manual partition to make sure the automatic partition
is selected automatically in the normal case. This should be
reverted when the selectoin bug is fixed.
+ We probably forgot to list something.
* Changed user admin module to webmin-ldap-user-simple. (Andreas)
* Changed webmin authentication method to PAM, removing the need for a
separate user database in webmin. (Andreas/Petter) (Fixes bug #683)
* Upgraded installed kernel to 2.4.26-1-386. (Werner)
* Upgraded to XFree86 4.2.1-3.bunk.10 to get support for more video
cards. (Werner)
* Dropped extra packages for XFree86 3.3.6, assuming that most cards
are now supported in XFree86 4.2. (Petter)
* Added rosegarden and sql-ledger to the CD. Not installed by
default yet. (Petter/Finn-Arne)
* Added first draft on a documentation package. (Mari)
* Security updates to: cvs (to 1.11.1p1debian-9woody2/ DSA-486-1),
perl (to 5.6.1-8.7 / DSA-431), tcpdump (to 3.6.2-2.8 / DSA-478)
* We probably forgot to list something.
I have testet that the CD is bootable and installable using VMWare.
A list of known bugs is available from <URL:http://bugs.skolelinux.no/>.
The following configuration for server and LTSP-server should work out
of the box:
- Apache
- CUPS
- DHCP
- DNS
- LDAP
- LTSP
- NFS
- NTP
- SMTP/IMAP over SSL
- SSH
- Squid
- Webmin
- User administration
- Backup
- Host and service monitoring.
The following services do not work as they should:
- SMB (lack LDAP authentication)
- cfengine (need host netgroups)
- SQL-server (unable to install automatically)
Test it and find out more. :-)
The disk usage for the different profiles (in KiB) is as follows.
Please take the numbers with a small grain of salt.

All in all there are 953 packages on the CD. Since the last time
there has been 16 packages added, 145 packages changed/upgraded and 31
