New Skolelinux CD image prerelease 40 (pr40)
I've made a new Skolelinux CD image, prerelease 40. It is available
from <URL:ftp://developer.skolelinux.no/skolelinux-cd/>. The image
size is 648 MiB.
Major changes since the previous image:
* In first stage installer (debian-installer):
+ Improved PCMCIA and USB support. (Debian)
+ Made it possible to return to automatic installation when a problem
occur and manual installation is enabled. (Debian)
+ Added/improved translations. (Debian)
+ Moved swap onto LVM, to get as many partitions as possible to use LVM,
and gain some flexibility when it comes to resizing them. (Petter)
+ Removed all manual partitioning tools as a workaround for a bug in
main-menu. They will be put back when the bug is fixed. (Petter)
+ Fixed lots of bugs. (Debian)
* Added some admin utilities: arping, finger (Petter)
* Installed correct PXE kernel for LTSP (Ragnar) (Fixes bug #422)
* Corrected laptop profile to get it included on the CD. (?)
* Improved Northern Saami translation of KDE. (Børre)
* Translated question about root password to Norwegian Bokmål. (Petter)
* Made sure LDAP authentication (and every other access to the user password)
always uses an encrypted channel over SSL/TLS. (Jarle/Ragnar/Petter) (Fixes

* Changed default umask to 002. (Petter) (Fixes bug #430)
* Upgraded base-config to the Debian Sid version. It contain some of the code
we had to keep in Skolelinux earlier, but can remove now.
* Security updates to: kdelibs (to 4:2.2.2-13.woody.8), man-db (to
2.3.20-18.woody.4), nfs-utils (1:1.0-2woody1), perl (to 5.6.1-8.3), unzip
(to 5.50-1woody1),
* webmin-ldap-skolelinux somewhat (fixes bug #100)
+ Added File import (fixes bug #268) (finnarne)
+ Added objectclass top on every object created(fixes bug 418)(pere/
finnarne)
+ Changed make_uid to use libtext::unaccent(andreas)
+ wls now uses tls (fixes bug #404) (ozmund)
* New translations for the installer interface: dutch, french, german,
latvian, sami, and spanish.
* I probably forgot something.
I have testet that the CD is bootable and installable using VMWare.

The following configuration for server and LTSP-server should work out
of the box:
- Apache
- CUPS
- DHCP
- DNS
- LDAP
- LTSP
- NFS/SMB
- NTP
- SMTP/IMAP
- SSH
- Squid
- Webmin
- User administration
The following services do not work as they should:
- cfengine (need netgroups, ie LDAP or NIS)
- Backup (no one has worked on it)
- SQL-tjener (will not install automatically)
- Appletalk (no one has worked on it)
Test it and find out more. :-)
