In our Skolelinux-RLP project, we used to install a newer kernel for
recent server hardware, which may be helpful to you. It contains most
IDE/SATA controller drivers in the static part, so no initial ramdisk is
required.

But new strategic requirements in our project demand that I instead
recommend to you to try installing kernel backports to Lenny first.

So, this is what I'm officially doing now. :-)
