How to fix annoying issue of vi editor in Debian 9?

Hello,

As the title says, any work around/help? Thanks.
vi editor in Debian 9 is very annoying & I get only ssh access to
remote Debian 9 system that means no fancy GUI's.
For example, copy-paste doesn't work in old fashion.
