I left out the specifics deliberately. :-)
Because it involves rolling out your own kernel. IMO, it is a simple process,
but for many it may not be so.

If you run the dd command on a regular linux kernel, like I mentioned initially,
you should hit the bug.
With Jens' patchset, it does seem to improve a lot.
