Yes.  But type-handling has a few inconvenients:

  - It requires manual hacking of debian/rules file.
  - debian/control becomes auto-generated, and for some reason some developers
    don't seem to like this.
  - It's doggy slow.  This can be improved but not as much as I'd like, since
    it needs to call dpkg-architecture (a perl script) iteratively.
