Bug#284941: dpkg: update-alternatives manpage has inconsistent --install options
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.10.25
Severity: minor
At the top of the update-alternatives manpage, options for --install
are listed as:
update-alternatives [options] --install link name path priority
Down below, under Actions, it is listed as:
--install gen link alt pri
which is a bit confusing, since 'link' is used in a completely
different way and in a different position. The top version is
consistent with the output from update-alternatives when run with no
command-line options, and the explanation there:
<name> is the name in /etc/alternatives.
<path> is the name referred to.
<link> is the link pointing to /etc/alternatives/<name>.
<priority> is an integer; options with higher numbers are chosen.
is clearer than the explanation in the manpage under Actions. I
recommend rewriting Actions to match the other two.
