dpkg: wishlist
Sorry if this is not the correct mean for dpkg wisklist ...
1. common-user package installation:
users have a directory for their installed packages ( eg.
entertainment, multimedia, ... )
2. packages compiled with relative paths references:
instead compiling source with absolute paths ( eg. /usr/bin/my ;
/usr/share/games/my/data ; ), make it with relative paths ( eg. bin/my;
share/games/my/data ) - that way users may install packages where they
want ( certainly some packages must be considered "root-only" )
3. option - automatic reinstall removed packages due dependencies:
for instance, when I tried to upgrade gimp a message said gnome need
to be removed ( is it a bug ? ); I think after a package is removed due
to dependencies, it should be reinstalled if possible.
4. suggestion for package managers and linux projects developers -
consistency :
unify data when possible - for instance, KDE+Gnome menu contents (
everything into /user/share/applications ), images ( /user/pixmaps ),
... I'm tired of "hidden" apps ( eg. I need to manually add a item into
Gnome menu for "Kino", a KDE application ).
