Bug#246857: dpkg takes too long installing gnome packages

Package: dpkg
Version: 1.10.21
Severity: important

Configuring GNOME packages while installing takes much too long.

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND
 28226 root 15 0 22128 21m 768 R 93.6 2.8 14:29 dpkg

The dpkg(28226) has the only job of configuring a single GNOME package
(I think it was gnome-applets, but others aren't different).
