Package: apt
Version: 0.5.24
Severity: minor

When checking for the space available to place the deb files in the
cache directory some extra space for writing other information should be
added. I suggest 10-20 MiB.

Then one could avoid situations like:
dpkg: failed to write status record about `ispell' to
`/var/lib/dpkg/status': No space left on device

dpkg can't produce a more accurate guess unfortunately: there are too
many local factors (blockfile, filesystem, tailpacking, etc.) that
influence the exact amount of diskspace used. The rough estimate that is
currently used is as good as we can get it.
