Those were simply bugs, and should have been fixed in dselect 1.10.17.
If you can still reproduce such problems, please file a new bug with a
URL to .tar.gz of /var/lib/dpkg before starting dselect and the required
steps in dselect.

Do you mean an option to treat Recommends as if it were Depends? (Note
that dselect does this the first time you select a package; it simply
won't nag you about them forever.)
