Bug#228379:
I'm having the same problem. In the following transcript, I've selected
a few packages for removal within dselect and then hit [I]nstall:

Running [I]nstall again (without even exiting dselect) fixes the problem:

To me it looks like an erratic buffer overrun or a missing string
terminator...
