Bug#225667: dpkg --configure does not accept keyboard input

Package: dpkg
Version: 1.10.18
Severity: normal

While running dpkg --configure, I cannot choose any of the options:

yggdrasil:~# dpkg --configure --pending
Setting up mailman (2.1.3-2) ...
/etc/mailman/sr/private.html: No such file or directory
Configuration file `/etc/mailman/sr/private.html'
==> File on system created by you or by a script.
==> File also in package provided by package maintainer.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
    Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
    N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : start a new shell to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** private.html (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ?

dpkg does not react to any keyboard input. My input is visible on the
screen, but after pressing Return, dpkg does not react. Ctrl-D does
not work, either. I can only do Ctrl-C to kill dpkg:

dpkg: error processing mailman (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt)
Errors were encountered while processing:
 mailman

This happens both in under X (remote Eterm) and on a virtual console
(remote access via SSH).
