Failed to lock dir for editing! Operation not permitted
I did have this error message (and dselect/ dpkg freeze!) when
installing 'coreutils'. I did commented install-info lines and the
problem was for 'diff'... (same with findutils, etc).
I don't know if it's dpkg (install-info) or perl (!?)... on the
powerbook I'm trying to install, the perl version is 5.8.0. I did
upgrade to 5.8.1-3 but it seems not to be the problem.

I do close the bug because I finally succeed installing Debian on my G4
ppc and ths dpkg problem does not exist.
Also, I've not been able to reproduce this bug on another platform.
I think it's reasonable to close this bug.
